My
brother, Kirk, used to tell me about the beauty of songs because they speak
about life, and he could relate to them.
Because of him, I have developed a greater appreciation for music and
songs, which is good since I have no talent in that area whatsoever.
Miley
Cyrus, or Hannah Montana, (don’t groan too loud) has a song out now that speaks
to me about life. It’s called, The
Climb, and deals with one’s struggle (both physically and spiritually) with
life. Let me quote a line and the
chorus:
“The
struggles I’m facing, the chances I’m taking, sometimes might knock me down,
but no I’m not breaking. I may not know
it, but these are the moments that I’m going to remember most. Yeah, just got to keep going, and I, I’ve got
to be strong. Got to keep pushing on
‘cuz...there’s always going to be another mountain; I’m always going to want to
make it move; always going to be an uphill battle. Sometimes I’m going to have to lose. Aint about how fast I get there; aint about
what’s waiting on the other side, it’s the climb, it’s the climb. Keep on moving, keep climbing, keep the faith
babe, it’s all about the climb, it’s all about the climb, keep the faith, keep
the faith.”

Blessings from the Blessing Box
This week has been a
week filled with blessing and angels & I found myself comparing the
two. Both come in all shapes &
sizes, some finely wrapped & some a bit scraggly, & both come
from-----now that’s a difficult statement.
The Pine Street Youth & I worked separating and organizing “stuff”
Saturday, & this conversation came up.
Some of these kids said “from out of the blue” & one said “from
nowhere”. One teen said “some Boy Scouts” referring to all the blessings we
were sorting. “Nowhere” & “out of
the blue” seem to lack a reverence & respect blessing & angels should
be given. We decided they come from the
hearts and the minds of people who love. In sharing their time with The
Blessing Box, this group witnessed tears & hugs when a lady received a much
needed CPap machine. The boys loaded a sofa and recliner for a family in need
and I told the kids an angel in overalls had just that morning brought us the
recliner because “someone might need it.”
Saturday was a day of
blessings & angels—some finely wrapped and some scraggly—some texting on
cell phones with one hand & sorting stuff with the other; some pretending
to be cheerleaders, some playing in toys & some looking bewildered at what
they had picked up.
Saturday closed with
Jerry & me standing at a long black wall (Veteran’s Memorial Wall) filled
with names of angels—all shapes & sizes—some finely wrapped & some a
bit scraggly—All were blessings.

Our Youth
Our youth had a unique experience recently. They went to Mineola to see the traveling
Veteran’s Memorial Wall. Learning about
those who served our country in various wars and branches of the armed forces
was an educational and solemn event. They
were able to visit with some of the military representatives at the site and
also had their photo taken with Representative Bryan Hughes.

Our
Thanksgiving Fellowship Meal will be on November 22. We look forward to wonderful food and
fellowship with everyone. Afterward we
will begin preparations for Hanging of the Greens which occurs the following
Sunday, November 29.
WOMEN’S MINISTRY
November 10, the morning group met to
price items and make final plans for Christmas in the Park. They will
gather for their regular meeting November 17 at 10 am and Dale Woodard
will present a movie entitled "A Clear View of Jesus' Birth" by Dr.
Kenneth Bailey. The evening group met Nov 11 and plans were made for the
annual women's Christmas party which will be at Lynda Ellenbecker's home
Dec 9 at 6:30. Everyone is asked to bring a Christmas ornament gift
costing $5.00 to $10.00 and a dish. The group voted to donate
$100.00 to Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center.
A prayer blanket was delivered to
Grace Collier and items were delivered to Morgan's Mercy Mansion as well as the
monthly gift of $30.00.Our Christmas family's needs have been placed on an
angel tree in our fellowship hall and members may choose what they would
like to give to them. Items are to be unwrapped. We appreciate all
the help we get from the congregation that makes all the work possible for our
women's ministry. Thanks be to God.
